Let’s discuss the budget-oriented dual camera phone, that’s Moto G5s Plus.
Moto G5s Plus
Moto G5s Plus is one of the best smartphones under Rs. 16000 or $250 in India as well as the world. There are a lot of reasons which prove that this phone has many more features than its competitors. We’ll discuss it further.
From the year 2015 to 2017, the total shipments of smartphones have increased tremendously. The number of smartphones purchased by Indian Consumers this year is greater than 58 million. So the companies are urging towards Indian market to sell their best smartphones at a reasonable rate.
Check this graph from Statistica to know more about Smartphone Shipments in India from 2011 to 2017 (in Million Units).
Moto G5s Plus comes with good specifications under $250 ranged smartphones. Another advantage of this phone is that it contains a dual camera setup which is helpful to create some “Depth Effect” which is used in taking good portrait shots by blurring the background. We’ll discuss it in the camera section.
Build Quality and Design
Moto G5s Plus is similar to the older Moto G5 Plus with some changes in Build Quality and Design. It comes with Metal Unibody design with Splash resistant technology. The body is tough with rounded edges and very different design from other smartphones.
This phone comes in two color options, Lunar Grey and Gold.
The sturdy feel and design make the phone different. For better screen protection, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is present which makes the phone breakproof and scratch resistant.
Processor and Speed
Moto G5s Plus comes with a 2.0 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor which makes the phone a great performer among its competitors. This phone is fast and powerful enough to handle loads of tasks simultaneously. You can play games like Asphalt 8, God of War or GTA easily with rare lags.
For normal usage guys, this phone is a beast. The processor combined with a 3000 mAh battery gives good performance and long-lasting battery.
RAM, ROM, and Android
This phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. It comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1 version and the company has planned to upgrade the version to Android Oreo 8.0, but no monthly security updates are sent by the company.
Apart from this, the pure stock Android experience is present with no bloatware at all. There is no complaint with the Android experience at all. 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage make the phone fast enough to run heavy apps and store a lot of apps, music or files.
Battery and Charging
Moto G5s Plus comes with a 3000 mAh battery. Another thing is, it supports turbo-charging and comes with a turbocharger which helps to charge the phone very quickly. With normal usage, the battery is good enough to last for more than a day. Within 30-45 mins the battery charges fully.
Battery drains faster while playing games, using the camera or playing the videos. But it is normal for any phone. Now let’s discuss the Display.
Similar to Nokia 6, the display in Moto G5s Plus is FULL HD (16:9) 5.5 inch IPS LCD with 16M colors. The brightness of the display is good enough to read under sunlight.
The display is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection which is helpful to prevent the screen from breaking easily and make it scratch resistant.
The rear camera is one of the best features of the Moto G5s Plus. The phone comes with a dual camera setup 13+13 Mp dual camera which is very helpful to create the “Depth Effect” (Blurry Background). It also helps in replacing the background with any other background and keep the focused object alive. You can also make the background black and white and keep the focused object colored.
The rear camera has an autofocus with f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. The camera records the video in 4K resolution (2160p) and due to the presence of the dual camera, the depth effect and details are much better. The camera performance is way better than its competitors.
Coming to the front camera, it is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0, but no autofocus is present as in Nokia 6. The front camera records the video in FULL HD resolution and captures the images with good details.
Sound, Speaker, and Recording
The sound in this phone is quite impressive. There is a mono amplifier at the bottom which plays the sound very loud and good.
About the sound recording on this phone, the recording of sound is not that much crisp and clear as in Nokia 6. When you record the video using back camera, the recorded audio sounds like a normal phone sound. You may understand this when you compare both the phones.
1] Fingerprint Reader
This phone comes with a fingerprint scanner/reader in the front. It is so fast and has features included in it. You can set gestures in the fingerprint reader. The position of this scanner is good and it is big enough to scan fingerprints easily.
2] Connectivity and Sensors
Moto G5s Plus comes with every sensor which is available in most of the phones. The other sensors which are present are fingerprint scanner and NFC. NFC allows you to share your files through the android beam and do cardless payment at stores. I’ve used the Android beam feature and transferred some files from Moto G5s Plus to Nokia 6. Beleive me I just tapped the two phones and the files transferred in seconds. I liked the NFC feature too much. Apart from this, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 is enabled on the phone.
3] Corning Gorilla Glass 3
The protective Gorilla Glass on the screen of this phone makes the phone secure from the screen side. It is scratch resistant and fingerprint resistant. It is very easy to clean the glass using a cotton cloth and the phone looks new after cleaning the glass. I accidentally dropped the phone from the table and nothing happened (not even a scratch).
My Review and Opinion
I kept the phone for a day and used the phone. I have tested the camera, battery and other things in this phone.
Everything is quite good and well on this phone and this is one of the best smartphones under Rs. 16000 ($250) and the reason is its durability, dual camera setup, and performance.
You’ll rarely experience lags on this phone because of the powerful 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. Tell me what your thoughts are on this phone by using the comments section below.
