Nokia 6 is a well-built budget oriented device. Here you’ll find all the details, pros and cons of Nokia 6 Android smartphone.
I hope that you already read my post on the Informer Fox Blog, and you know how long I waited for the Nokia 6 phone after it was announced. After ordering it from Amazon India on 23rd August, Finally, I got the device on 28th August, and I am writing this review on 2nd September 2017 after using it for 5 days.
Nokia 6 is an Android smartphone product by HMD Global a Finnish company. Yes, Nokia 6 is not from Nokia Corporation, because Microsoft purchased Nokia a couple of years ago and sold the brand name and some rights of “Nokia” brand to HMD Global. Before the announcement of Nokia 8, this was the Flagship phone from the Nokia brand. Apart from Nokia 6, the company has released mid-range smartphones like Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. From these, Nokia 6 is the superior and good in terms of specifications. It is priced at $239 or 15000 INR. The phone comes in three colors in India, Matte Black, Tempered Blue, and Silver.
Build Quality and Design: The important factor
The company has focused a lot on the Design and build quality of Nokia 6 smartphone. Unlike other smartphones in this price range, Nokia did a far better job in terms of Design. With 7.9mm thickness, this phone is slimmer than it looks in some YouTube videos.
You won’t believe but this phone is very slim and feels tough and strong. Many popular websites like TechRadar and NDTV Gadgets360 have appreciated the design and build quality of this phone and termed it as the best design in mid-range smartphones. The phone feels tough, sturdy and light-weight as compared to other phones in this price range. The build quality is like heaven. I’ve seen no phone with a build quality like this. The 6000 series Aluminium metal unibody makes Nokia 6 even long lasting. Everything is scratch resistant on Nokia 6, except the Metal. The metal is prone to scratches. But overall the phone is built to last long.

Processor and speed
What disappointed me was the processor of Nokia 6. This phone comes with octa-core 1.40 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Processor. The combination of Snapdragon processor and 3GB ram + 32GB internal is good. But, in 2017 it is a pretty outdated processor. It’s been a year since this processor is released. Nowadays Snapdragon 600 series is found in this price range, even Lenovo Z2 plus has Snapdragon 800 series processor and is cheaper than Nokia 6 (initially it was expensive).
Don’t know what was in the mind of the company when it was planning the processor for Nokia 6. But after using the phone for almost a week, I did not find any issues in the processor. The multitasking is good, very rare lagging in games, good speed for normal usage but not for very high-end gaming. The processor combined with a 3000 mAh battery works pretty well. Even, games like Asphalt 8 work smoothly on this device. Thanks to the octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset.

RAM, ROM, and Android
The phone comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, except the Arte Black edition which comes with 4GB ram and 64GB internal storage (not yet available in India). It comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1 with guaranteed Android and security updates. When I got the phone, It had the security patch level of June 2017, but yesterday, I got two security updates, one of June and other of August 2017.
So, HMD Global is keeping its promise for latest security updates. Let’s see how fast HMD Global gives the Android Oreo 8.0 update to the Nokia users. The company claims that the phone comes with no Bloatware and has a purely near Stock-Android experience. But, there are Amazon apps like Kindle, etc, which cannot be uninstalled and can be considered as Bloatware. It would be better if the company provided the phone with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. There is no complaint with the Android experience on the phone.

Battery and Charging
Nokia 6 comes with a 3000 mAh battery. The fact is it does not support turbo-charging or quick charging. It takes almost 2 hours to charge the phones fully. The competitors of this phone like the Moto G5 plus or the Moto G5s Plus support turbo-charging which is quite disappointing for the Nokia 6 users. Perhaps, the battery backup is quite good on the phone. After using the phone without sim card, just on Wi-Fi, the phone lasted more than 20 hours. With sim-card, Nokia 6 lasted for more than 18 hours. After using the phone’s hotspot or playing the games, the battery drains faster.
After continuously playing games on Nokia 6, it could last for almost 10 hours or less than that. There is a minor heating while using the phone’s hotspot, playing games or using the camera. But, thanks to the 6000 series Aluminium metal unibody, the phone cools down super-quickly in just minutes. Just keep it on a table and let the miracle happen.

The phone comes with a 5.5 inch FULL HD display (16:9), with 403 ppi pixel density and 450 nits laminated brightness. The main feature of this display is its sunlight readability. I’ve found no problem with the sunlight readability feature of this phone. Even at low brightness, I could read everything under sunlight.
Nokia 6 comes with a 16 MP Rear facing sensor with Dual-tone LED flash and Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). The image quality from the rear facing camera is more than expected. The images are crisp, clear, and sharp. The contrast and color-matching are amazing. While focusing nearby objects or using the macro mode, the bokeh effect is found, which is pretty interesting.
The phone records video in FULL HD resolution and no doubt, the quality is far better than its competitors like Xiaomi, etc. The aperture is found to be f/2.0 which is common in the mid-range smartphones. The images are somewhat noisy in a low light environment but in sunlight or indoor lights, the camera works more than excellent. Here are some sample images from the rear facing camera of the Nokia 6 smartphone.
Coming to the front-facing camera, it is an 8 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and Autofocus. It is quite interesting to have autofocus on the front camera which other phones lack. The front camera too records videos in FULL HD (1080p) resolution. The images taken using the front camera of Nokia 6 are good in good light condition but with darkness, they become noisy. So far, I have no complaints with the cameras of this phone. But, this year has witnessed phones with dual cameras in this price range. So, If there was a dual camera on this phone, this phone would be the best among them.
Sound, Speakers, and Recording
HMD Global has done a great job in terms of speakers and recording through the microphone. There are dual speakers on Nokia 6 despite mono speaker found in most of the phones. Dual speakers create a great stereo effect and the sound is really amazing. There are dedicated amplifiers for good sound quality certified by Dolby Atmos sound. The sound is very loud, crisp and clear. It does not sound like other Chinese phones. The microphone records the sound very clearly during video recording and the quality of sound is really awesome. For sound, the company used a smart amplifier (TFA9891) with Dolby Atmos sound.
Many more features
1] Fingerprint Reader
This phone comes with a Fingerprint scanner in the front. The fingerprint scanner is very accurate and loads the phone in approximately 0.3 seconds. It is fast enough to load the phone, but not the fastest among all. The size and design of the Fingerprint reader are very good but, it is placed slightly lower. This makes it difficult for the thumb to reach the fingerprint scanner while using the phone. You have to shift your hand slightly lower to make your thumb reach the scanner. It also works as the Home button while using the phone.
2] Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection
The protective Gorilla Glass on the screen of this phone makes the phone secure from the screen side. It is scratch resistant and fingerprint resistant. It is very easy to clean the glass using a cotton cloth and the phone looks new after cleaning the glass. I accidentally dropped the phone from the table and nothing happened (not even a scratch).
3] Connectivity and sensors
Nokia 6 comes with every sensor which is available in most of the phones. The other sensors which are present are fingerprint scanner and NFC. NFC allows you to share your files through the android beam and do cardless payment at stores. I’ve used the Android beam feature and transferred some files from Nokia 6 to another Nokia 6. Beleive me I just tapped the two phones and the files transferred in seconds. I liked the NFC feature too much. Apart from this, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 is enabled on the phone.
My review and opinion
I have used the phone for almost 5 days and I have no problem with the phone. But, if you are a hardcore gamer (I prefer hardcore gamer as a person who continuously plays high graphic games like GTA, Counter Strike, etc) this is not the correct choice for you. The reason is, while playing games continuously on this phone, the battery drains faster. But, if you play low-graphics games like 8 Ball Pool or Color switch, the phone works normally.
The phone works fine and without any lags. Even games like Asphalt 8 are smooth. For daily usage, this phone is preferable over most of the phones and the reason is its durability. The 32GB storage isn’t sufficient for most of the users like me but it is fine for normal usage.
